SEO Frequently Asked Questions

Straightforward answers to common questions about SEO, local search, rankings, timelines, and working with SEO by Seth.

SEO Basics

SEO, or search engine optimization, is the process of improving your website and online presence so your business can be found more easily when potential customers search for the products or services you offer. Good SEO isn’t about chasing rankings for the sake of rankings. It’s about increasing your visibility for searches that can actually bring the right people to your business.

I don’t use the same strategy for every business or create work simply because it’s included in a package. I start by understanding your business, your customers, your market, and where the best opportunities exist. From there, I prioritize the SEO work that can have the greatest impact. You’ll also work directly with me throughout the process rather than being passed between salespeople, account managers, and different members of an SEO team.

Not every business needs the same level of SEO, but if potential customers use search engines to find the products or services you provide, search visibility can be an important part of growing your business. The right strategy depends on your market, competition, website, goals, and where your customers are searching.

Local SEO & Google Maps

Local SEO focuses on improving your visibility when people search for businesses, products, or services in a particular geographic area. This can include optimizing your Google Business Profile, maintaining accurate business information across the web, improving your website’s local relevance, earning reviews, and strengthening other signals that help search engines understand where you operate and who you serve.

There isn’t one single factor that determines Google Maps visibility. Your Google Business Profile, business information, reviews, website, location and relevance to the search all contribute. The goal is to build a strong and consistent local presence rather than looking for one trick that suddenly pushes your business to the top of the map results.

Yes, but that doesn’t mean your business needs to be submitted to hundreds of low-quality directories. Accurate and consistent business information across important platforms helps search engines and customers understand and trust your business. I focus on listings that actually make sense rather than creating citations simply to increase a number on an SEO report.

SEO Results & Expectations

There isn’t a universal SEO timeline. Results depend on factors such as your website’s current condition, competition, market, existing visibility, and the work required. Some improvements can produce results relatively quickly, while competitive searches may take considerably longer. I would rather set realistic expectations based on your situation than promise a specific ranking by a specific date.

No—and you should be cautious of anyone who does. Search rankings are determined by Google and can change based on competition, algorithms, location, search intent, and many other factors outside an SEO provider’s control. What I can do is identify opportunities, make informed improvements, monitor performance, and continually work toward increasing your visibility.

Rankings can be useful, but they’re only part of the picture. Depending on your goals, I may look at organic traffic, search visibility, Google Business Profile performance, leads, conversions, calls, and the types of searches bringing people to your website. The measurements that matter should connect back to what you’re actually trying to accomplish as a business.

Yes. When you work with SEO by Seth, you work directly with me. I handle the strategy, review your performance, identify opportunities, and remain your point of contact. You won’t be sold by one person and then passed to an account manager who passes your work to someone else.

No. Different businesses have different websites, competitors, markets, strengths, and problems. I don’t believe in doing something simply because a monthly package says it needs to be done. Your SEO strategy should focus on the work that makes sense for your business at that point in time.

I’ll take an initial look at your website and online search presence to identify potential issues and opportunities worth discussing. The purpose isn’t to hand you an automated report containing hundreds of warnings. It’s to give us a practical starting point for understanding where your SEO stands and whether there are meaningful opportunities to improve it.
